New York Prosecutors Charge Luigi Mangione with Murder!
Luigi Mangione has been formally charged with multiple offenses, including one count of second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, one count of second-degree possession of a forged document, and one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to online court records.
Mangione, 26 is accused in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Court documents also reveal Mangione was criminally cited last year in Hawaii for entering a restricted area within a state park. The citation, issued by the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources on November 12, 2023, alleges that Mangione "knowingly, intentionally, or recklessly" disregarded a posted sign designating a closed area at the Nuuanu Pali Lookout in Honolulu. He was found guilty and fined $100.
Following Mangione’s arrest, his family released a statement through his cousin, Maryland state delegate Nino Mangione. “Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi’s arrest,” the statement read, signed by The Mangione Family. “We offer prayers to the family of Brian Thompson and ask people to pray for all involved.” The family emphasized that they only know the details of the case that have been made public, adding, “We are devastated by this news.”

Later that evening, Mangione appeared in court for the first time but did not enter a plea. After the hearing, he was transferred to the State Correctional Institution in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.
According to a law enforcement source, Mangione made a cryptic reference to UnitedHealthcare in a document, noting that “United” is one of the largest companies by market capitalization in the U.S. However, there was no direct mention of Thompson in the document.
